In 1689, Richard’s dream came true, and upon regaining his freedom, he immediately set sail for his beloved Ireland and the girl he left behind. He created the first Claddagh ring for the love of his life and future wife, choosing the heart to represent their love, the crown, the loyalty that triumphed against all odds, and the hands, the friendship that would hold them together forever.
