Ancient Celtic Symbol of True Romance in White Gold and Emerald Green

Although the origins of the iconic 'Celtic love knot' symbol are unknown, early examples are found in Irish art from the 7th century onwards. Monks and scribes created ornate versions in illuminated manuscripts and other works of art for centuries, and from the 9th century, they are found carved into the surface of Celtic High Cross stone monuments.

The design was used in pre-Christian pagan times to symbolize sacred traditions such as the earth, sea, and sky or the triple goddess deity. In later times, this meaning evolved to include the Christian Holy Trinity as the old ways and beliefs faded. During Ireland’s great Celtic revival movement in the late 19th century, the symbol became known as the Irish or Celtic love knot and is today synonymous with ideals of romance and true love.
